Adding an Invisible Zippered Pocket to a Seam
Using Jalie's Renee #4018
This was a requested modification (hack) by my students. I’m teaching Jalie’s Renee Ponte pant pattern via Zoom for That Sewing Place Newmarket and it was a unanimous request.
Let’s face it, pants need pockets.
And adding the opening to that diagonal front seam between the front and the inset is a great place to add it. The downside is that these are a close-fitting pant made of Ponte de Roma and I was concerned that the pocket opening would gape open.
Sew, let’s close the pocket with a zipper, and an invisible zipper would even be better!
I showed my class how to draft the pocket pattern this past week and in our next lesson I’ll show them how to sew in the invisible zipper and complete the pocket. We’ll make a working sample first using contrast coloured threads for confidence, then move onto the real thing.
They can add a pocket on both hips, or just one.
Have YOU done something like this on pants you’ve sewn?
Does the idea intrigue you?
Would you like to know more?

I think that is a brilliant idea. It looks very modern and tidy. Your students are lucky to have you!
